Temporal Cartography Project

Tom Dawson is a landscape architect, urban planner, and artist living in Durham, NC. Over the course of his 15 year career, he has designed and developed a broad range of projects including transit oriented metro communities, art museum landscapes, industrial sites, university campuses, parks, trails, wetlands, and gardens. He currently works for the Durham Parks and Recreation department preserving and enhancing the city's park and trail system. Tom holds a degree in economics from Guilford College and a master' of landscape architecture from Virginia Tech. Tom is the resident artist at the Scrap Exchange and incorporates re-use and upcycling into his designs. The Temporal Cartography project is a fusion of Tom's art and environmental planning interests. This installation, performance, and sculpture project address his fears about climate change and his efforts to develop participatory design and planing skills with the public.
