Jumana Qamruddin works at the World Bank Group. She has over 20 years of expertise and has worked across the globe with deep experience in Africa. Her passion for public health was ignited when she was a Peace Corps health volunteer in West Africa. Since then, she has led portfolios of over $500 million and collaborated with countries and regions to design and implement leading-edge health and human capital development strategies and programs to accelerate equitable outcomes.
Jumana recently co-led preparation for the World Bank’s new $100 million investment with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to enhance regional public health preparedness capacities. As part of the COVID-19 response, Jumana was at the forefront of designing a $12 billion framework for COVID-19 vaccination—the largest World Bank health program to date. Over the past year, she has also been working closely with the African Union on a historic partnership to help close the vaccine access gap through the AVAT Initiative. Jumana supports the operationalization of the Human Capital Project where she facilitates a multisectoral effort to prioritize comprehensive investments that empower girls and women. Jumana co-leads the World Bank's service delivery innovation global team, focusing on helping countries realize more equitable, people-centered primary health care through service delivery innovation.
Jumana’s growing experience is in transforming how teams and institutions approach complex development challenges. Her latest endeavor is a novel program for health leadership teams called the Future of Health Systems Program for Leaders. Its the first of its kind and launched across eight states in Nigeria in March, 2022. Its tailored program pedagogy is cultivating applied complexity skills and mindsets in senior health leadership teams. Complementing technical expertise, the program helps build strategic foresight, systems thinking, human-centered design, and anticipatory, collective action to achieve sustainable results in health and beyond.
Jumana was competitively selected to be part of the 2022 Cohort of the WomenLift Health Fellowship Program, a year-long leadership journey for woman leaders in global health.
