Alexis Hope is a designer, technologist, and research affiliate at the MIT Media Lab and Center for Civic Media. She currently serves as the Creative Director for FOLD, an open publishing platform developed at MIT to help people tell complex stories by weaving in multimedia. FOLD is used by journalists, educators, and organizations around the world. Prior to joining MIT, Alexis led a project to develop a portable ultrasound machine for midwives in Seattle, Uganda, and Kenya. Alexis was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow from 2012 - 2015 focusing on bringing human-centered and participatory research methodologies to technology design. As part of this work, she helps organize unique hackathons and civic technology workshops.
