About
IntraHealth International is reimagining SwitchPoint 2020 in the wake of COVID-19. Instead of in-person global events, we’re launching a series of Virtual SwitchPoint Exchanges: online, creative, and highly interactive gatherings in the style of SwitchPoint.
The first Virtual SwitchPoint Exchange will take place September 18, 10am – 12:30pm EDT, in partnership with The Global Fund. Youth Voices: The Future We Want will amplify the voices of young global health leaders, including members of The Global Fund Youth Council, IntraHealth’s Youth Ambassador team, young advocacy and policy leaders, and extraordinary artists such as CJ Suitt, Culture Mill, and Kenyan acclaimed musical artist Juliani. The Global Fund CEO Peter Sands, IntraHealth International CEO Polly Dunford, and global specialists will join us as we focus on critical global health needs even as countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. CJ SUITT
Poet Laureate, Town of Chapel Hill
CJ Suitt is the poet laureate of Chapel Hill, NC. He is a performance poet, arts educator, and community organizer whose work is rooted in storytelling and social justice. He is committed to speaking truth to power and aims to be a bridge for communities who can't always see themselves in each other. Suitt facilitates dialogue in spaces that are often dominated by fear-driven stereotypes. He is the co-creator of the podcast Sitting in the Intersection, which explores the radical nature of relationships across differences. CJ has served as SwitchPoint’s MC for several years.
PETER SANDS
The Global Fund
Peter Sands became Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in March 2018. Sands is the former Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered PLC, one of the world’s leading international banks operating across over 70 markets, primarily in emerging markets. After a distinguished career in banking, Sands was a research fellow at the Harvard Global Health Institute and the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard Kennedy School, where he immersed himself in a range of global public health projects. Sands chaired the International Working Group on Financing Pandemic Preparedness at the World Bank and he was Chairman of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine’s Commission on a Global Health Risk Framework for the Future, which published the influential report “The Neglected Dimension of Global Security: a Framework to Counter Infectious DiseasenThreats.” Sands is also a member of the U.S. National Academy of Science’s Forum on Microbial Threats and is serving on a Committee on Ensuring Access to Affordable Drugs.

David Moinina Sengeh is the Minister of Education & Chief Innovation Officer-Sierra Leone; a Harvard & MIT PhD; an AI & Biomechatronics Researcher; a Lemelson-MIT/TED/Obama/National Geographic Fellow, Forbes 30 under 30, Wired Smart List, artist, lyricist, rapper, fashion designer and all-around groundbreaking leader. FRANK MUGISHA
Soul-Xpressions
Frank Mugisha is a Rwandan-Ugandan dance artist based in Kampala. He has trained in contemporary dance, breakdance and African traditional dances, which he fuses to create a unique artistic identity. As a creative facilitator, movement student, educator, and performer, Mugisha uses dance as a tool for self-expression, bridge-building and a vehicle for social change. Mugisha's work has sent him all around the world. He focuses on the continuous unlearning of all he's been taught as an African man that he feels belittles him and the ways of his people—and he constantly seeks to reinvent and remember new and ancient ways of being in balance with self, others, and his surroundings.
ZOLELWA SIFUMBA
Beat Tuberculosis Advocate
Zolelwa Sifumba is a medical doctor from Durban, South Africa. She contracted tuberculosis as a result of her occupational exposure during her studies, struggled through the treatment process, and finally beat it. She has been a strong voice in the global fight against tuberculosis, sharing her story on international platforms to educate and give hope to others. Despite the challenges of working in a resource-limited setting, Sifumba enjoys serving her community and has a special interest in the occupational health and wellness of health workers. She is an advocate and activist who shares her story worldwide in an effort to beat TB.
NWANGWU EUDORA
Global Fund Youth Council Leader
Nwangwu Eudora is an intersex, gender equality and sexual right activist, a feminist who is passionate about women and human rights, a Young Key Population Leader, and a photo-voice specialist. Eudora is committed to community service and social justice, working for the promotion and protection of the sexual minorities in Nigeria. Eudora has worked with two LGBTIQ led organization for over four years, working directly with the community as a counselor and community mobilization officer. They are a member of the Global Fund Youth Council, Common Wealth Youth Gender Equality network and World Literacy Foundation Ambassador, a graduate of Anambra state College of Health Technology and has a degree in Pharmaceutical technology.
JULIANI
MUSICIAN
Songwriter and social activist Juliani is a celebrated Kenyan Hip Hop rapper. He believes that every person has an innate ability to succeed as long an enabling environment is created, and resources and opportunities are made available. Juliani uses his influence and space to provide these resources and opportunities in his world, most recently, producing an online concert to draw attention to the social inequalities exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused multiple challenges for the country’s poor. His mantra-a lyric in one of his songs-is 'Kutabadilishwa na nani Kama si sisi' (Who will change things if it's not us).
MARIAMA ABDOU GADO
Medical student and Family Planning Youth Ambassador
Mariama Abdou Gado is a medical student at the Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey (Niger), blogger, activist, social entrepreneur, app developer and volunteer passionate about everything related to social behavior change and sustainable development. She firmly believes that young people represent not only the future, but also the present, and that women constitute a huge reservoir of potential which is unfortunately unrecognized and untapped. Mariama is president of of the Young Ambassadors for Reproductive Health and Family Planning Web in Niger and part of IntraHealth’s team of Youth Ambassadors using social media and other communications to disseminate messages around Family Planning and Global Health.
NANA MILLERS
Global Fund Youth Council Leader
Nana Millers, from Uganda, is an unapologetic rural transgender youth activist, feminist, HIV cure activist, advocacy for cure fellow, civic leadership graduate of the Young African Leadership Initiative, Alumna of CREA’s Feminist Leadership Movement Building and Rights Institute. Nana is the Executive Director of a Trans Youth Initiative-Uganda a rural based human rights organization that advocates for the rights of transgender young women, sex workers and gender diverse youth in western Uganda. She is driven by social justice and one day hopes to witness a completely liberated and equal Ugandan society.

Culture Mill is an artist-driven organization made up of working professional artists who believe that culture is an investment in civil society, and such an investment benefits from the existence of open, dynamic, and fluid enclaves fostered by artists and other creative people. The programs and methods of the organization adhere to the organic, intuitive, dynamic and radical spirit of an artistic project. With a team of experienced consultants and board members to guide and ensure sustainability, the artists at the helm allow Culture Mill to imagine and realize radical new possibilities for how an arts organization can exist in the 21st century.
POLLY DUNFORD
INTRAHEALTH INTERNATIONAL
Polly Dunford is IntraHealth International's president and CEO. She spent nearly 20 years with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Cambodia, Haiti, Jordan, Mozambique, Nigeria and Washington, D.C., most recently as the global director for HIV/AIDS. In this role, she led the agency’s efforts to help countries achieve and sustain epidemic control of HIV/AIDS under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). This included overseeing a $2.5 billion annual budget, leading a team of 160 staff, and providing guidance and direction to 50 USAID missions worldwide. Before joining USAID, Dunford served as the country director of the Near East Foundation in Morocco and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Côte d’Ivoire.
RUKIA MÄNNIKKÖ
The Global Fund
Rukia Männikkö is an experienced international professional and business development player with over 16 years demonstrated history of working in development cooperation in lower, middle- and upper-income countries. She is currently with the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, where she works as Community, Rights and Gender Advisor for Africa and Middle East Department. She previously held the role of coordinating the adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) workstream across the Global Fund Secretariat. Prior to joining The Global Fund, she was Project Manager for a health financing program on gender-based violence response (part of a broader maternal health program) co-financed by German KfW Development Bank and Kenya's Ministry of Health. Rukia is skilled in managing and negotiating complex government to government, public-private and donor to government multi-stakeholder innovative partnerships. She is highly experienced in technical and financial resource mobilization and grant management; concept and project development and management as well as provision of technical assistance and advice towards program quality, policy and legal reforms. Rukia graduated with a first-class honors in International Relations & Psychology and holds a Masters’ degree in Gender & Development Studies. Rukia is a strong champion for young women and girls’ and especially, their meaningful engagement in decision-making across development policies and programs and leadership.
ALEX WINCH
The Global Fund
Alex Winch is a health economist and associate specialist in health financing for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Alex works on advocacy, with a focus on increased, and more effective use of, domestic financing for health, since April 2019. Since 2017, Alex has worked as part of the international Decision Support Initiative (iDSI), focused on advancing efforts for evidence-based decision making in health in low and middle-income countries. Alex initially joined the Global Fund in 2014, following undergraduate and graduate degrees, respectively in Economics and Health Economics from the University of York. Initially Alex supported the development of the $14 billion agency's sustainability, transition and co-financing policy along with the market shaping strategy.
NATALIE GYENES
Meedan
Nat Gyenes is a researcher, anthropologist and writer focusing on the intersection of health and technology. As special projects lead at Meedan, she builds tools for global journalism and translation, access to information, and digital inclusion. She also leads the health misinformation working group at the Credibility Coalition, and as research affiliate at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center, examines the way that the health information we encounter online impacts disease distribution. She studies the role that epidemics—and digital misinfodemics—have in changing cultures, traditions, and societies. Before joining Meedan, Nat worked at the MIT Media Lab, with the UN Special Rapporteur on Child Protection, developed guidelines for health professionals working with trauma-affected refugees, and attended the Harvard School of Public Health.
SHU-SHU TEKLE-HAIMANOT

Shu-Shu Tekle-Haimanot is the Senior Advisor of Political Advocacy and Partnerships, Resource Mobilization at The Global Fund. Shu-Shu is an accomplished expert in public health, public policy, political advocacy, and resource mobilization with special expertise in high-level diplomacy with heads of state, ministers, senior leaders at the United Nations and other international organizations, CEOs in private sector companies, and established leaders in academia. With more than 20 years of experience in policy, advocacy, and resource mobilization work in international organizations, and a highly successful track record in the African region securing billions of dollars for public health, Shu-Shu has focused on public health issues including HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, health financing, and gender mainstreaming.
LUAL MAYEN
Junub Games
Lual Mayen is a South Sudanese developer and founder of Junub Games. He was born in South Sudan and raised in a Northern Uganda refugee camp, after his parents had to flee South Sudan to find refuge. He is passionate about creating games to help promote peace. He is currently building a virtual reality experience that focuses on the idea that an individual’s behaviors and decisions before picking up a gun are the most powerful. The game shows that even small behaviors and choices can have devastating and far-reaching consequences, and it helps the player to practice and experience how to avoid the path of war and violence in resolving conflict. Mayen was recognized as a 2018 Global Gaming Citizen by Facebook Gaming at the Game Awards for using games to bring about positive impact.
NNEKA MOBISSON
mDoc
Nneka Mobisson is cofounder and CEO of mDoc, a high-tech mobile and web-based platform that connects people with chronic diseases with personalized integrated care support. mDoc makes health care more available and accessible by using a combination of digital tools and face-to-face support to personalize services for people with chronic health needs, track lifestyle changes and health outcomes, and help them navigate where to go for care. The application was a 2019 winner of USAID's Inclusive Health Access Prize.
