BrainDance

Monica Gillette is a dancer, choreographer, and project developer for interdisciplinary research. After an education in classical ballet, Monica developed a career in contemporary dance, collaborating with choreographers in Los Angeles and New York before a DanceWEB scholarship took her abroad in 2007. Since then, Monica has been involved in several artistic projects which challenged format and medium, leading her to Mexico, Japan, Israel, Iran, Turkey, and several European countries. Since 2008, she has worked at Theater Freiburg in Germany, not only as a dancer and choreographer, but also in areas of community building and outreach. For the last two years, her focus has been investigating movement and movement disorders. She co-created a system of research which brought together dancers, neuroscientists, physicians, philosophers, and people with Parkinson's to explore the different facets of human movement and what it means to lose control over it.
